Police arrest around 20 in coordinated capital-area operation

Police arrested around 20 people, possibly more, in coordinated operations across Iceland’s capital area on Tuesday morning, mbl.is reports.

Searches were carried out at several locations, including businesses, and police seized a large volume of documents.

According to mbl.is sources, the investigation concerns suspected extensive drug offences and money laundering linked to them.

Police have declined to comment. Several of those arrested are expected to appear before a judge on Tuesday evening, when prosecutors will seek their detention in custody.

Sources described the operation as ambitious and successful and said it had been planned well in advance.
