Supreme Court rejects appeal by convicted sex offender

The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal request from a man sentenced by the Court of Appeal to three and a half years in prison for rape and sexual offences against a child, mbl.is reports.

The man was charged with raping and sexually abusing a 13-year-old. The charge said he had intercourse and other sexual contact with the victim without consent and by using unlawful coercion.

He was also charged with sexual harassment after repeatedly abusing another victim over a six-month period. The allegations included touching her breasts under her clothing at least four times, twice attempting to move his hand towards her genitals, spanking her once and telling her that she had an attractive bottom.

A district court convicted the man of a sexual offence against a child in the first part of the indictment but acquitted him of rape. It also convicted him on the second charge and sentenced him to two years in prison.

On June 4, the Court of Appeal increased the sentence to three and a half years for rape and sexual offences against a child. The conviction on the second charge was also upheld.
