Swedish election campaign becomes a battle over media and truth

Sweden’s election campaign has become a contest not only for voters but also over the truth, according to SVT’s documentary series Drevet.

Top politicians have intensified their criticism of journalists and established media outlets, while new media websites and channels are challenging established newspapers and public service broadcasting.

Minister for Civil Defence Carl-Oskar Bohlin has conducted his own media criticism on X. He drew widespread attention by publishing his full interview for the documentary well before SVT’s broadcast.

The 36-minute programme was released on SVT Play on Tuesday and is available worldwide.
