Police expand into former vehicle inspection building

KVF reports that the police are taking over a former vehicle inspection building because the current police station no longer has enough space.

Eight police officers from two departments will be based in the building opposite Føroya Rætt, a court. The building was once used by Bileftirlitið, the former vehicle inspection office.

Police chief Michael Boolsen said the lack of space was also a sign that the force would need more room in the future.

As the Faroese police force expands and hires more staff, its new prevention and border police departments will move into the building when it is ready around the turn of the year.

The location is particularly useful for the prevention unit, which works on issues including assault and stalking, because it is in the centre of town and close to both Føroya Rætt and Danmarks Fængsler.

The current police station is only five years old. Boolsen said, however, that the force had already lacked space before moving into the building. He added that the police would continue to need more staff and space as its operations developed.
