Sigmundur praises Ed Sheeran amid Macklemore criticism

Centre Party leader Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson has sent his best wishes to British musician Ed Sheeran, in a post that appears to address criticism of Sheeran, mbl.is reported.

“Best wishes to Ed Sheeran, a friend of Iceland and apparently an all-around nice guy,” Sigmundur wrote on X.

“Those who senselessly bully people who want to bring joy and goodwill to everyone shall inherit the wind,” he added.

Sigmundur was apparently referring to criticism Sheeran has faced for not supporting remarks by rapper Macklemore that were sympathetic to Palestine. Macklemore made the comments at a concert in New Jersey earlier this month, while performing as the opening act for Sheeran.

Macklemore shouted “Free Palestine” and was subsequently removed from Sheeran’s Loop concert series.
