Case over Westfjords police chief’s conduct sent to prosecution division

mbl.is reports that the District Prosecutor’s Office in May referred a case concerning complaints against Helgi Jensson, chief of police in the Westfjords, to its prosecution division.

RÚV reported the case, citing Karl Ingi Vilbergsson, a prosecutor at the District Prosecutor’s Office. The complaints concerned alleged incidents at a Þorrablót event held by residents of Flateyri.

One complaint concerned alleged violence by Helgi, while the other concerned alleged sexual harassment. The District Prosecutor’s Office completed its investigation in May and referred the case to the prosecution division. It is not unusual for cases to remain there for several months before a decision is made on how to proceed.
