Strong winds and rain forecast for central parts of country

Yle reports that heavy rain and strong wind gusts are expected in the central parts of the country on Sunday, while the southern coast may see sunshine.

The low-pressure system deepened overnight, bringing rain to the southern and central parts. In the afternoon, rain will be heaviest in Pohjois-Pohjanmaa, Kainuu and Lapland. The strongest winds will focus on the central parts.

Yle meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander said wind gusts could exceed 15 metres per second in many places and cause local damage. On the southern coast, sunshine may be more widespread, with temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius.

Rain will retreat and winds weaken on Monday, although showers will continue in the southern and central parts. Temperatures will range from 10 to 15 degrees in most of the country. On Tuesday, the weather will be dry across the country.
