mbl.is reported that Icelandair and aircraft technicians’ negotiating committees met at the office of the state mediator at noon on Friday, in what mediator Ástráður Haraldsson described as a final attempt to prevent a planned strike on September 23.
Full negotiating committees from both sides were called to the meeting.
Under Icelandic law, the state mediator can submit a mediation proposal in the dispute. This would postpone the strike while the proposal was put to a vote.
The Morgunbladid newspaper reported that Icelandair aircraft technicians earn an average of about 1.4 million Icelandic krónur per month. If Icelandair met their wage demands, the airline’s labour costs for this group would rise by 25 to 30 per cent.
