Faroe Islands to hold PISA test every four years

The Faroe Islands will administer the PISA test every four years instead of every three, KVF reports. The next test for Faroese ninth-grade pupils will take place in 2029, with the results published in 2030.

The change was confirmed by Eyðun Gaard, director of Námi.

The OECD organises the PISA test. Although the Faroe Islands are not an OECD member, they have taken part since 2006 as part of Denmark’s participation. Faroese results are not included in Denmark’s figures, but are assessed separately and made available in the Faroe Islands for comparison with results from other countries.

The test had been conducted every three years since 2006, apart from a change made in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. It will now be held every four years.

Participation has been estimated to cost between 300,000 and 400,000 Danish kroner per year over three years, including the test, licences and reporting. Gaard said the test will become cheaper when it is conducted every four years instead of every three.
