Reports of violence and threats against teachers have risen sharply in recent years, with 18 per cent reporting workplace violence in 2025, DR reported.

Figures from the National Monitoring of the Working Environment among Employees show that the proportion reporting violence has almost doubled from 9.7 per cent in 2021.

The share of teachers who said they had been threatened with violence also increased, from 12.8 per cent in 2021 to 20.9 per cent in 2025.

More schools are now receiving orders from the Working Environment Authority, according to Skolemonitor. Violence against employees is the issue the authority most frequently identifies in schools, the outlet reported.

Two experts told Skolemonitor that teaching has become a high-risk profession, describing the development as serious.
