SÁÁ chair leaves door open to rehiring former medical director

Anna Hildur Guðmundsdóttir, chair of SÁÁ, does not rule out rehiring Valgerður Rúnarsdóttir, the organisation’s departing director of medical affairs, mbl.is reports. Guðmundsdóttir said Rúnarsdóttir’s knowledge and experience were invaluable.

Guðmundsdóttir said the conflict between SÁÁ’s board and senior managers stemmed from organisational changes that placed all of SÁÁ’s operations under the chief executive.

More than 60 SÁÁ employees have expressed no confidence in the board, while some doctors have threatened not to return to work after sick leave unless Guðmundsdóttir resigns.

She said the matter was now in the hands of the new chief executive, who had hired a consulting company to help resolve it. Guðmundsdóttir said she did not believe the solution was for her to resign.
