Skipanes heads to Hong Kong for six to eight weeks of repairs

The Smyril Line ship Skipanes is heading to Hong Kong for repairs after a fire in its engine room, KVF reports. The work is expected to take six to eight weeks.
Skipanes is expected to arrive in Hong Kong tomorrow morning, according to Smyril Line chief executive Jens Meinhard Rasmussen. He said the damage was limited.
The ship is carrying cargo, including about 900 electric cars.
No one was injured when the fire broke out in the engine room on September 2. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the crew consists of 23 people.
According to VesselFinder and MarineTraffic, Skipanes is travelling to Hong Kong from China. The ship left Xiamen on Wednesday night.
Skipanes was 20 nautical miles off Taiwan when the fire occurred. The ship is travelling to the Faroe Islands from China, where it was built, and went to a shipyard in China for inspection before continuing to Hong Kong.
