Icelandic bar on Tenerife to move after a decade at current site

The Icelandic bar Nostalgia on Tenerife will move to new premises at the end of September after 10 years at its current location, mbl.is reports. The bar is run by Herdís Hrönn Árnadóttir and Sævar Lúðvíksson.
The new venue, formerly home to Cafe Epoca, is in El Camison, between the area known as the American coast and Los Cristianos. It is in a busy district just above the main shopping street, which Herdís describes as Tenerife residents’ equivalent of Laugavegur.
Herdís said she and Sævar had been offered the chance to buy their old premises but had not been sufficiently interested. They then began looking for a new venue and said they now knew much better where it was good to operate after 10 years in business.
The new location is close to their home, and they have been familiar with it for years.
“We have been watching it for 10 years, so when it became available, we decided to seize the opportunity,” Herdís said.
The more central location will bring some changes to the business. Nostalgia will open in the mornings with coffee, kleina pastries and croissants, operating partly as a café during those hours.
The owners also plan to preserve the Icelandic atmosphere, serving fish, schnitzel and meatballs and showing Iceland national team matches. The new premises will accommodate about 100 people for matches, rather than 500 at the old venue.
Herdís expects more Icelanders to visit because the bar will be in a busier location. She also anticipates visitors from Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway, noting that the Danish venue Little Mermaid is across the street and that many Scandinavians live nearby.
“We are very excited. There is naturally a lot to consider and much to do, but we are very excited about this new chapter and know much, much more now than we did 10 years ago when we first opened,” she said.
Herdís and Sævar aim to open the new venue before the end of the month. They hope to show Iceland’s men’s football national team match against Finland on September 26.
