Court gives man three years for holding friend captive and abusing him

Iceland’s Court of Appeal has sentenced Davíð Bjarni Thoroddsen to three years in prison for holding his childhood friend captive with two other people and sexually abusing him, mbl.is reports.

The incident took place in Vatnagardar towards the end of 2024. The court said the victim was deprived of his freedom for about two hours and 20 minutes.

Thoroddsen had previously received a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence from a district court, but prosecutors appealed the ruling.

The indictment states that Thoroddsen and an accomplice tied the victim down, undressed him and subjected him to various forms of abuse. Thoroddsen allegedly pulled down his trousers, pushed his buttocks into the victim’s face and told him to “lick this” and “kiss him”. He also forced the man to dance naked and pushed a pipe into his crotch.

A video recording of the deprivation of liberty, filmed by Thoroddsen’s accomplice, was among the main pieces of evidence. The court found that the offences had been carefully planned and carried out for financial gain.
