Two men have been sentenced to two years and three months in prison over a death in Oulu’s Kaukovainio district, Yle reports. The Oulu District Court found them guilty of aggravated assault and aggravated death by negligence committed through excessive self-defence.

The prosecution had primarily sought manslaughter convictions and, alternatively, convictions for aggravated assault and aggravated death by negligence. It also considered the incident to involve excessive self-defence.

The offences took place in a private apartment on Tornihaukantie in Kaukovainio and outside nearby on 7 May 2025.

Police were called shortly after 4am. The victim, a man aged about 40, was found badly beaten and barely alive on the ground outside.

He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. Police initially investigated the case as a homicide.
