Two men survive Lumijoki explosion after prolonged hospital care

The two men seriously injured in an explosion in Lumijoki, a municipality in North Ostrobothnia, have survived, Yle reports, citing Oulu police. Their injuries have required extended hospital treatment.
Police have therefore still been unable to interview either man, said Tero Väyrynen, head of communications at the Oulu Police Department.
“We have allowed healthcare professionals to do their work first,” Väyrynen said.
Police have also not formally interviewed the two other people who were present at the scene. Neither was injured in the explosion.
The accident occurred on 30 August, when a barracks built on the chassis of a lorry exploded. According to police, the men, born in 1981 and 2007, had tried to dispose of the structure by burning it.
Väyrynen said the highly flammable liquid used to start the fire had vaporised, causing a rapid and powerful ignition.
The people injured in the incident are members of the same family, according to police.
Police are continuing to investigate the case as causing danger, environmental damage and careless handling. The explosion did not endanger bystanders.
Lumijoki municipal manager Heidi Soini previously told Yle that the accident had deeply shocked local residents.
