Icelandair offers flight changes ahead of mechanics’ strike

Icelandair is offering passengers booked to travel on September 23 or 24 the option to change their flights because of a potential mechanics’ strike, mbl.is reports.

All Icelandair flights remain scheduled for now. The option is subject to seat availability, and passengers can change their travel date through the “My Booking” section of the airline’s website.

If the strike goes ahead, all Icelandair flights from Iceland, including international and domestic services, will be cancelled from 12:01 a.m. on September 23.

The strike could significantly disrupt travel because it would take place during a busy period when most of the airline’s flights are heavily booked. Icelandair operates an average of 110 flights a day in its network at this time, carrying around 15,000 passengers daily.

“It is clear that the strike will not only cause losses for Icelandair, but will also have wide-ranging effects on Icelandic business, the economy and society as a whole,” the airline said in a statement.

If the flight schedule changes, Icelandair will contact passengers about the next steps. The airline is urging customers to monitor updates and ensure that their correct contact details are listed in their booking through the website’s “My Booking” section or the Icelandair app.
