An earthquake swarm began on the Reykjanes Ridge about 50 kilometres southwest of Eldey late Tuesday evening, mbl.is reports.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office’s natural hazards monitoring service said nearly 50 earthquakes had been recorded intermittently so far. The largest measured 3.2 and 3.1 in magnitude.

Such earthquake swarms are common along the tectonic plate boundary in the area. A similar swarm last occurred there on July 25.
