Vørn to join military exercise despite patrol ships being laid up

Vørn will take part in the Lion Protector 2026 military exercise in Vestmannasund in the coming weeks, despite both Faroese patrol ships currently being out of service, Kringvarp Føroya reported.

The Danish defence is expected to lease a vessel for the exercise. Vestmenningur, a pelagic fishing vessel, is one of the ships that has been mentioned, but no agreement has been reached and it is not yet known which vessel will be hired.

Vestmanna Municipality said increased activity would take place in the harbour area in connection with the exercise.

Kringvarp Føroya corrected an earlier report that said Vestmenningur would be leased because both patrol ships were unavailable. The correction said it was the Danish defence that would lease a vessel.
