International maritime safety exercise begins off Helsinki

An international maritime safety exercise has begun off Helsinki, Yle reported.

The three-day exercise involves the police, the Finnish Defence Forces, rescue services and emergency medical services, as well as Poland’s Border Guard Service. Visitors and observers from several countries will also attend.

The exercise is part of the European Union’s efforts to improve the security of critical maritime infrastructure. It aims to strengthen the participants’ ability to respond effectively to challenging situations at sea, such as detecting and taking control of a vessel dragging its anchor.
