Bryndís Klara’s killer transferred to halfway house

According to mbl.is, the man who killed Bryndís Klara Birgisdóttir has been transferred to Vernd, a halfway house where he is serving his sentence.

He killed Bryndís Klara during Culture Night in 2024 and was sentenced to eight years in prison in April last year. Until now, he had been serving his sentence at Stuðlar, a treatment facility.

He was 16 when he committed the offence and had turned 17 by the time he was sentenced.

Under Icelandic law, eight years is the maximum sentence for an offence committed before the age of 18. Prisoners under 21 can apply for parole after serving one third of their sentence, which in this case is about two and a half years.
