Parliament adds funds for new parental leave IT system

Kringvarp Føroya reports that the Faroese Parliament has approved an additional 2.5 million kroner to develop a new IT system for the parental leave scheme.

The existing law, passed in 2024, allocated 11 million kroner for the system. The government says 13.5 million kroner is needed.

TAKS estimates that the new system can be introduced on April 1, 2027. Development will be funded by the parental leave fund.

The system is intended to make the administration of parental leave payments more digital and user friendly for parents, employers and administrators. It will also be easier to adapt to expected future changes in the parental leave sector.

The scheme will also gain better access to data, enabling improved and less expensive statistical analysis.
