Police rescue kitten trapped inside van after driver hears meowing

A kitten trapped inside the frame of a van was rescued in Haapajärvi on Friday, Yle reports.

A man went to the police station after suspecting that a cat was stuck inside the vehicle’s structural frame. He had heard meowing while in Reisjärvi and drove to Haapajärvi.

Rescue services were called, but police began trying to free the kitten while waiting for them to arrive. The animal was released before the rescue service reached the station.

Police said the kitten was in good condition but hungry. It was taken to a veterinarian and then transferred to an animal shelter in Pyhäjärvi.

The owner is unknown, and police do not know how the kitten ended up inside the van. Tero Väyrynen, communications director at Oulu Police Department, said the animal looked well cared for and was therefore unlikely to be feral.
