Record number register for Finland’s autumn matriculation exams

Finland’s autumn matriculation examinations began on Monday, with a record number of registrations, Yle reports. The exams will run until September 30.

The first test is the reading comprehension examination in Finnish language and literature. Examinations in religion, worldview studies, social studies, chemistry, geography and health education will follow on Wednesday.

A total of 47,800 candidates have registered for the autumn examination, around 1,200 more than in autumn 2025, according to the Matriculation Examination Board.

Registrations across different subjects and levels of study total about 99,700, an increase of approximately 2,600 from last year. The board said this is the highest number ever recorded for an autumn matriculation examination.

The results will be sent to upper secondary schools on November 12.

The examinations have been organised digitally since 2016. This year, the new Abitti 2 examination system is being used for the first time.
