Atlantsflog cuts Iceland flights for winter

Atlantsflog will sharply reduce its flights to Iceland this winter because of competition from Icelandair, KVF reported. The airline’s chief executive, Jóhanna á Bergi, said there was no longer a sufficient basis for maintaining the route at its current frequency.

Atlantsflog currently flies to and from Iceland twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays. From 23 October, it will operate one weekly service, flying to Iceland on Fridays and returning to Vágar on Mondays.

There will be no flights to Iceland from mid-December until 19 March, apart from a few services around the turn of January and February next year.

“We have to take reality into account,” Jóhanna á Bergi told Portal. “When we were alone in the market, it made sense for us to fly to Iceland during the winter. With competition from Icelandair, which uses smaller aircraft on the route, it no longer makes sense for us to fly as often in winter.”
