White ground and icy patches reported across northern Iceland

Snow has covered mountain areas across northern Iceland, with more sleet expected today, mbl.is reports. Webcams operated by the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration showed low visibility in Vatnsskarð earlier on Saturday.

Hrafn Guðmundsson, a meteorologist at the Icelandic Meteorological Office, said strong northeasterly winds were affecting the region and that drivers should expect icy patches on mountain passes.

Asked whether snow or sleet would continue over the coming days, Guðmundsson said temperatures would rise on Sunday and the snow would likely melt.
