Mehiläinen Länsi-Pohja starts negotiations over 50 person-years

Mehiläinen Länsi-Pohja Oy will begin restructuring negotiations affecting about 250 employees at Länsi-Pohja Hospital in Kemi, Yle reports. The company estimates that staffing may need to be reduced by about 50 person-years.

The negotiations follow a decision by the Lapland wellbeing services county council on 18 May to scale back the hospital’s services, according to a statement from Mehiläinen Länsi-Pohja.

The company said the hospital’s operations are expected to decrease significantly, probably from February next year. The changes could involve redundancies, part-time work or changes to employment conditions.

The hospital’s services have already been reduced in recent years. For example, surgical operations requiring inpatient care ended at the turn of the year.

Mehiläinen Länsi-Pohja said the negotiations will not have an immediate impact on the hospital’s operations. It will provide further information as the changes become clearer.
