Faroese minister calls for study of space activities

Faroese Minister Jacob Vestergaard says the Faroe Islands should examine opportunities for different types of space activity, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Vestergaard was responding to a question from member of the Faroese parliament Bjarni Kárason Petersen about space activities in the islands.

He said there was currently no legal basis for space activities in the Faroe Islands. Denmark’s 2016 space activities law has not been put into effect there, while the field is considered part of aviation, an area that has not been transferred to Faroese control.

Vestergaard said neighbouring countries had increased their activity in the field in recent years. He therefore considered it worthwhile to investigate the possibilities for space activities in the Faroe Islands.
