Eloisa gets one-year extension to cover deficit

South Savo’s public welfare services region, Eloisa, has received extra time from the Ministry of Finance to cover its deficits, Yle reports. The extension runs until the end of 2029, one year beyond the original deadline.

The region’s board chair, Jari Leppä of the Centre Party, described the decision as very good news in a statement.

“We still have a major task ahead, with around 60 million euros in deficit to cover. But now we have the time and opportunity to find and implement sensible solutions that safeguard services,” Leppä said.

Eloisa said the extension is based on advance information from the ministry and will be officially announced shortly.

The region’s planned cuts will remain in force, and ongoing cooperation negotiations will continue as scheduled. Eloisa began organisation-wide negotiations last week, with the aim of cutting 34 million euros in costs.

The welfare services region had prepared its financial plans on the assumption that the ministry would grant additional time. Eloisa’s regional council decided to apply for the extension in June.
