Swedish police investigate teenage girl over Fagersta sword attack

Swedish police are investigating a 15 year old girl suspected of helping prepare the sword attack at a school in Fagersta, DR reports. The attack killed a 17 year old girl and injured three others.

Prosecutors said the investigation had uncovered extensive chat conversations involving several young people. Prosecutor Adolf Oleszkiewicz said the girl had been active in the same online environment as the man remanded in custody over the school attack.

Police have not disclosed how they believe the girl helped prepare the attack. She is not suspected of taking part in the attack itself.

Police searched the girl’s home and seized items that are now being analysed, Oleszkiewicz said. She was later placed in the care of social services. Sveriges Radio reported that the girl denies the allegations.

The attack took place on 21 August at a secondary school about 150 kilometres north-west of Stockholm. A person wearing a helmet and black balaclava attacked people with a sword.

An 18 year old man was arrested shortly after the attack and later remanded in custody on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

DR’s verification team previously reported that, shortly before the attack, a picture of a sword lying in a school toilet had been shared on TikTok through the online community TCC. Police are investigating whether the profile that shared the picture was connected to the suspected attacker.
