Court orders treatment for man convicted of hotel room detention

A man has been given an indefinite treatment order by the Court of the Faroe Islands for deprivation of liberty, violence, threats and vandalism, KVF reports. He immediately appealed to the High Court, seeking a less severe sentence.

The man wants a sentence with a fixed duration. The treatment order imposed by the court has no time limit.

He denied the charges. According to the indictment, he held two women in a room at a hotel in Havn for two hours.

He was also accused of hitting one woman, kicking the other and threatening to kill them. He was further accused of causing vandalism in the room.

The court awarded one of the women 4,000 kroner in compensation. The other woman made no claim, while the hotel was awarded 10,000 kroner.
