Five Colombian citizens, including a family of three, have been remanded in custody until 5 October in connection with two cocaine smuggling cases, mbl.is reports.

The family arrived in Iceland early on 29 July and were arrested at Keflavík Airport carrying 2.4 kilograms of cocaine.

The following day, customs officers stopped two other Colombian citizens who had arrived in Iceland from Spain. They were carrying 1.7 kilograms of cocaine.

It was reported in August that police were investigating possible links between the two cases.

Suðurnes police said in a written response that the investigation is ongoing and that no further information can be provided at this stage.
