The latest PISA results point to a broader social problem than reading skills, Niels Uni Dam, deputy chair of the Equality Committee, told Kringvarp Føroya.

The assessment found that boys performed significantly worse than girls in reading and understanding texts.

“This is frightening, and it is about much more than just reading skills,” Dam said.

He said the trend had been that young men were doing worse than women in society. He added that the issue should be addressed by organisations beyond the Equality Committee.
