Cyclist born in 1930 dies in Pedersöre crash

A cyclist born in 1930 died after colliding with a passenger car in Pedersöre on Wednesday, Yle reported.

The crash happened shortly before 2pm at the intersection of Ytteressentie and Åsbackantie.

According to police, the cyclist was travelling from the direction of Jakobstad along the left side of Ytteressentie. At the intersection, the cyclist turned right and was struck by a car travelling in the same direction. The speed limit in the area is 80 kilometres per hour.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and the events leading up to the collision.

The driver, who was born in the 1940s, is suspected of endangering traffic safety, aggravated causing of death and driving a vehicle without the legal right to do so. Police do not suspect that intoxicants played a role in the crash.
