Heiskanen to lead unified Helsinki and Pori shipyards

Helsinki Shipyard and Sata Shipbuilding in Pori will operate under the same administration, Yle reports. Mika Heiskanen, a master of science in technology, will become the companies’ joint chief executive.
Heiskanen has previously served as chief executive of Rauma shipyard company RMC.
Sata Shipbuilding’s current chief executive, Niko Suomela, has been appointed vice president for integration. He will remain part of the joint management team for the Finnish operations.
Helsinki Shipyard and Sata Shipbuilding are part of the international Inocea group. The companies have also established a joint management structure for the Helsinki and Pori shipyards.
The administrative restructuring is intended to support growth in Finland and strengthen the shipyards’ role in Inocea’s international projects.
“Finland now has an exceptionally strong position in the international icebreaker market. Our task is to ensure that this is reflected in growth, investments, jobs and exports in Finland,” Heiskanen said in a company release.
The combined order book of the Helsinki and Pori shipyards is worth more than two billion euros. The company says it plans to invest approximately 200 million euros in the shipyards by the end of the decade and hire hundreds more shipbuilding professionals.
