Ship horn from Polar Amaroq wakes Reykjavík residents
A loud horn from the Greenlandic offshore vessel Polar Amaroq woke some Reykjavík residents at around 6 a.m., mbl.is reported. The vessel is docked at Grandabryggja.
The horn was triggered after an alarm system on board was activated. The system is connected to the horn, which is presumably used while the vessel is at sea, said Gísli Jóhann Hallsson, chief harbourmaster at Faxaflóahafnir.
Some residents of the West Town and city centre woke to the noise, while others speculated about its cause on social media.
The horn had not been disconnected when the vessel arrived in port. “It was human error. They always disconnect it when they come into port, but that failed this time,” Gísli Jóhann said.
