Faroe Islands government plans to tighten immigration regulations for non-EU citizens seeking work permits

The government of the Faroe Islands plans to tighten immigration regulations, particularly for non-European Union citizens seeking work permits. This initiative will be primarily focused on revising the Fast Track program.

Bjarni Kárason Petersen, the Minister for Foreigners and Integration Affairs, expressed that it will become more challenging for third-country nationals to obtain work and residence permits in the Faroe Islands. He supports the Prime Minister’s stance, emphasizing that the review will center on the Fast Track system.

A significant portion of the foreign workforce entering the Faroe Islands does so through the Fast Track program, which specifically caters to individuals from countries outside the Nordic region and the EU. Although many workers also arrive from EU countries, changing regulations for them poses more complications for Faroese authorities.

As a result, the immediate focus will be on the Fast Track program to assess and potentially alter its parameters.
