Iceland considers housing appeals committees under one roof

Iceland is considering moving appeals and adjudication committees into shared premises, mbl.is reports, as part of efforts to improve efficiency. The premises could also accommodate smaller administrative committees and the Institution of Industries, which is due to begin operating on January 1, 2027.

The proposal is included in the 2027 budget bill presented on Monday.

The plans are based on a general authorisation to buy or lease office or commercial premises for individual state institutions when this is considered necessary because of restructuring, or to improve the use of space and increase efficiency in state operations.

The government is also considering finding other premises for the Cultural Heritage Agency of Iceland, the Communications Authority and the Transportation Accident Investigation Board. Shared storage facilities for state institutions may also be considered.
