Finance Minister Daði Már Kristófersson says this year’s increase in the kilometre charge had been planned since the charge was introduced a year ago, mbl.is reported.

He said the increase above inflation had been included in the government’s financial plan for “many years” and that the charge had always been scheduled to rise in stages.

“There is an accumulated need for maintenance and financing in the road system. This is part of the previous government’s plan to change road-traffic charges,” Kristófersson said.
