Fire in Álftanes apartment building quickly extinguished

Firefighters quickly extinguished a stove fire in an apartment building in Álftanes on Monday, mbl.is reports.

The Capital Area Fire and Rescue Service received a report shortly before noon of dark smoke coming from a first-floor window. All stations were dispatched, but firefighters found the fire burning on a cooker when the first vehicle arrived and put it out.

The other fire engines were turned back. Shift supervisor Sigurjón Hendriksson said the incident had turned out better than it initially appeared.

Firefighters worked to clear smoke from the apartment, which suffered some minor damage.
