Faroese patients can now receive medicines from the Faroes in Denmark

People from the Faroe Islands who are in Denmark can now have medicines sent from the Faroes for their personal use, Kringvarp Føroya reports. They can also bring medicines to Denmark by plane or ship without the previous three-month limit.

The change is particularly important for Faroese patients staying in Denmark for extended periods, including for medical treatment. If they need more medicine during their stay, it can now be sent from the Faroes, making it easier for patients and relatives to ensure they have the medicines they need.

Border barrier removed

Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen, the health minister, said she was pleased that the border barrier within the Danish realm community had been removed.

The new Danish rules took effect on January 1, 2026. Special restrictions still apply to intoxicating and antibiotic medicines. In some cases, permission is required from the Danish Medicines Agency, Lægemiddelstyrelsen.
