Hellisheiði mountain pass will close to eastbound traffic for about six hours on Tuesday for asphalt repairs, mbl.is reports.

According to Iceland’s Road and Coastal Administration, the closure will begin at 10 a.m. and is expected to continue until 4 p.m., weather permitting.

The Ring Road will be closed at the Þrengsli junction and at Hveradalir. Eastbound traffic will be diverted through Þrengsli and then along Þorlákshafnarvegur.

Drivers should expect longer journey times during the work. The route between Reykjavík and Selfoss via Hellisheiði is about 57 kilometres, while the detour through Þrengsli and over Óseyrarbrú is about 71 kilometres, adding 14 kilometres to the journey.
