Moped rider flees police and crashes in Ii

A moped rider who fled from police crashed off the road in Ii, North Ostrobothnia, on Sunday evening, Yle reported. The rider and passenger suffered minor injuries, according to police.

A police motorcycle patrol spotted the rider travelling at considerable speed on a light-traffic path near the Haukiputaantie intersection. Officers followed and tried to stop the moped using a stop light.

The rider accelerated, while the passenger tried to cover the moped’s registration plate with a hand.

The rider then turned onto a smaller road and left the road on the left side while negotiating a bend.

An emergency medical unit later examined the rider and passenger. Police said both escaped the crash with minor injuries.

The rider is suspected of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety. Police seized the moped.
