Young voters could boost Sweden’s Green Party in 2026 election

Young voters could help Sweden’s Green Party, Miljöpartiet, perform strongly in this year’s election, SVT election reporter Fouad Youcefi says.

Miljöpartiet is one of the parties with the highest share of young voters, and there will be more first-time voters than in 2022.

“This is a very important voter group for the party,” Youcefi says.

Miljöpartiet slightly increased its support in the previous election, partly because voters from the Left Party and the Social Democrats gave it tactical votes. However, the party cannot rely on that support this year, with opinion polls putting it at 8 percent.

Instead, it will be important for Miljöpartiet to continue growing in northern Sweden and perform well among a specific group of voters. Youcefi lists the party’s most important areas in a video published by SVT.
