Overnight exercise tested Kuopio’s modern civil defence shelter

Yle reports that an overnight civil defence exercise in Kuopio has tested how people can be sheltered and how a modern shelter can be maintained through the night.

The Suojaan 2026 exercise ended with an overnight phase at Luola, a sports and events centre converted into a civil defence shelter. A group of people stayed there while organisers practised the shelter’s nighttime operations.

Yle journalist Antti-Petteri Karhunen took part in the exercise and spent the night from Wednesday to Thursday in the shelter.
