Ljósanótt, a town festival in Reykjanesbær, has got off to a smooth start, according to mbl.is. Organisers said Friday’s programme went particularly well, and police reported that the night passed without incident.
The festival began on Thursday and reaches its peak on Saturday with the annual cohort parade and a major concert on the main stage.
The parade begins at 1.30pm, bringing together people from numerous graduating cohorts before ending at the main stage. The 50-year cohort is traditionally especially prominent during the parade and at the reception in the festival area.
The evening concert will feature Alaska1867, Hipsumhaps, Birgitta Haukdal, Kristmund Axel and Emmsjé Gauti, among others. The annual fireworks display is scheduled for 10pm.
Friday’s programme included a variety of events across the town, followed by concerts at several locations in the evening.
