Iceland holds first Sweater Day to support children with cancer

Iceland is holding its first Sweater Day, encouraging people to wear their favourite sweaters in support of children with cancer and their families, mbl.is reports.

The day is organised by Börn með krabbamein, a support association for children with cancer and their families. People have been invited to share photographs of themselves wearing sweaters on social media using the term treyjudagurinn.

Staff at Ljósið, a support organisation, also took part. “We at Ljósið are participating in the day and showing that we are all on the same team,” the organisation said in a Facebook post.

The organisation also noted that, on average, one child in Iceland is diagnosed with cancer each month. “When a child is diagnosed, the whole life of the child and family changes,” it said.
