City council approves 40 homes in Breiðholt

Reykjavík city council has approved the tendering of construction rights for 40 homes at Suðurhólar 27 in Breiðholt, mbl.is reports. The development will include row houses and full-floor apartments, with 49 parking spaces planned for the site.

The project will emphasise high-quality architecture, a green character and buildings that fit well with the area’s landscape.

The zoning proposal was submitted during the previous city council’s term. Representatives of the Independence Party and the Progressive Party welcomed the project at the time, noting that little housing of this type had been built under the previous majority.

According to a statement from the Social Democratic Alliance, the development will be adaptable, allowing residents to shape and expand their homes as their needs change.

Playground equipment currently in the area will remain in use but will be moved to two new playgrounds within the development.
