Employers reject proposed work equipment regulation as unfinished

A proposed regulation on qualification requirements for certain work equipment is not ready to take effect and must first be thoroughly reviewed with industry, the Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reported.

The Employers’ Association and the Handicraft Masters’ Association support the aim of ensuring that dangerous work equipment is operated by qualified people. However, they say the draft regulation sent out for consultation by the government is not ready.

Both organisations recommend revising the proposal and then submitting it for a new consultation. The system must, for example, be adapted to the Faroese labour market, they say.

It must not create unnecessary costs, administration or obstacles for businesses and apprentices without delivering a corresponding safety benefit.

In its current form, too many fundamental issues remain unclear, the employers’ organisations said in a consultation response from Vinnuhúsið.
