Shop owners take minor test-purchase case to European rights court

Shop owners are taking a case involving underage test purchasers to the European Court of Human Rights, DR reports.

The industry association Nærbutikkernes Landsforening has decided to pursue a case involving a kiosk owner in Augustenborg on Als.

Last week, Denmark’s Supreme Court ruled that the Danish Safety Technology Authority may use underage employees to check whether shops sell alcohol or nicotine products to minors.

Nærbutikkernes Landsforening disagrees with the ruling and will now take the case to the highest court.

The Safety Technology Authority has used minors for these checks since 1 July 2024.
